Road Trip

The hubby and I are about to embark on a fun road trip, and in the spirit of travel, I tried to search for that classic photo of a woman wearing a scarf in a convertible with the top down for a little inspiration on what to pack. I thought it would be fun to dress up for the ride, but it doesn't make as much sense since I don't drive a convertible. But maybe I could take advantage of the crisp, clean non-L.A. air and drive with the window down, scarf flapping in the wind. I had a little trouble finding the photo I was searching for, but when I went to my favorite poster site online, I came across something way better. Vintage travel posters! I ♥ allposters.com big time! I get all my vintage posters here. The selection is amazing! Here are my faves to inspire me for our road trip.

My Kind of Stud

Stud earrings always make me a little giddy, maybe because they remind me of childhood. I remember how excited I was to get my ears pierced with the cutest little "diamond" studs when I was a little girl. Here are some more grown-up versions of the little stud.

Holy Mole!

To say my husband and I have become obsessed with making hummus is an understatement. We have literally come home from a night out, with maybe a few too many drinks in our bellies, and made hummus for a 2:00 am snack. Once you rinse and drain a can of chickpeas, it takes only a couple minutes to produce a batch of tasty hummus. With all this hummus making comes a lot of experimenting with flavors. If you remember, here are some other fun flavors we have tried. The other day, I came up with a south of the border recipe to rival that of any traditional hummus I've tasted. My husband called it "Baja Hummus."

15 oz can of chickpeas (rinsed and drained)
♥ 1 garlic clove (crushed)
♥ 1 tsp ground cumin
♥ 1 tbsp tahini
♥ 2 tbsp mole (I bought mine at Whole Foods)
♥ 3 tbsp olive oil
♥ juice of 3/4 lemon
♥ salt and pepper to taste
♥ cholula hot sauce to taste

♥ Put chickpeas, garlic, cumin, tahini, mole, olive oil, and lemon juice in a food processor. I also added one of my favorite things in life, Cholula Hot Sauce, and I added a lot of it! But it's up to your discretion how much you want to put in. Blend until smooth and make sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl. Add fresh ground pepper and salt to taste and a little extra lemon juice. I garnished the hummus with thinly sliced radish and cucumber.

Summer Salad

We had a fun triple date at our apartment last night. Well, I guess I should say quadruple date because our friends brought their one year old French Bulldog pup, Frankie, to play with our little four-legged fuzzy head. When we weren't laughing at the pups' shenanigans, we were stuffing our faces in a potluck plethora. We had everything from sushi and lettuce wraps to shrimp pasta salad and home-made hummus. I tried my hand at gluten free cookie sandwiches, which ended in more of a disaster than an edible treat, but I'm not going to give up. I will try again, and I will prevail! But I was successful with an awesome summertime raw corn and zucchini salad that I saw in the June 2010 Everyday Food magazine (one of my faves!) The salad is so simple and easy to make, and super delicious!

Ingredients:
♥ 3 ears corn
♥ 2 medium zucchini
♥ 2 tbsp fresh lime juice
♥ 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
♥ 2 tbsp coarsely chopped fresh cilantro
♥ season with coarse salt and ground pepper

♥ Remove husks and silks from the corn and cut off the tips. Stand corn in a wide, shallow bowl and slice downward with a sharp knife to remove kernels. Put kernels in a medium bowl. Thinly slice the zucchini and add to the bowl of corn kernels. Add lime juice, olive oil, and cilantro and season with salt and pepper. Toss the mixture well. Dive in!

Bikini Time

So I went to the beach this last weekend, and I laid out in a hoodie. What's wrong with that picture? It was so cold, I couldn't stand it... but that's not keeping me from getting exciting for the warmth that is sure to come soon and looking for some great swimsuits. Here are my top choices.

So Far, So Good!

I don't wear tons of makeup because truthfully I have no idea what I'm doing. All of my makeup skills were left behind in college, so I usually go the minimal route. Nonetheless, I'm always looking around for great products and rarely like one so much that I stick with it. These new wonders I've brought home recently, however, may stick around for a little while.

Sunnies Side Up

With summer "officially" underway, (though I'm still waiting for the hot weather) make sure to protect your eyes from the sun. My eyes have oddly gotten lighter with age, which makes them way more sensitive to bright light, so I've been looking for a nice pair of shades to keep me from squinting all day long. Here are some fun styles I've been deciding on.

Get Some Height

I don't know about you, but I've pretty much kinda lost my ability to walk in heels after I graduated from college. But I'm not quite ready to play my grannie card just yet. That's where wedges and platforms come in. They can be sky high, but much much easier to walk in than itty bitty stilettos. My 3 millimeter circumference heeled ship has sailed... far far away... but these styles may make my clustered closet this summer.

P.S. bloomindales.com is having a sale on shoes ;)
