home sweet home

I'm back from Japan and am super jet lagged.  Most probably not gonna be able to fully function for a while, so it may take some time to upload my photos.  In the meantime, here are some of my favorite photos from past Japan trips.

i'm a taurus now?

I don't know what you guys think of the new zodiac sign dates, but I'm just not buying it.  I've always been a gemini through and through, and I can't quite grasp that fact that now I may indeed be a taurus.  It's just confusing.  I can just picture the jumbled reactions people will get now when they ask, "What's your sign?"  Maybe to celebrate this new line of zodiac thinking, I'll wear both of these pendants, and if they get totally tangled and wrapped around each other, then the irony would be too perfect.

namesake

I was always so jealous growing up of people that could consistently find their names on personalized items in the gift shop.  Those stupid mini license plates, pencils, plastic mugs, shot glasses... you know what I'm talking about.   Well, you can imagine my excitement when I saw these Matiko shoes.  They style name is... drumroll please... Sachi!  Smile.

moto puffy

I just bought the greatest jacket!  I'm still a little giddy about it.  I'm going to Japan for a much needed getaway, and this time I am prepared for the cold.  Last year, the ridiculously cold weather kinda blindsided me.  This awesome puffy jacket from The North Face totally looks like a vintage leather moto jacket.  It has a water resistant nylon shell with Heetseeker™ synthetic insulation.  I'm just crossing my fingers that it'll keep me warm.

more from Waitomo

Yesterday, I highlighted a hotel at the Waitomo Caves in New Zealand.  All these incredible memories started flooding back to me when I started to think about my trip to the caves with one of my besties, Jessica Snoocheroo Ng-Comer.  Our trip into the depths of the Waitomo Caves was one of the coolest, yet totally spooky things I've ever done.  We went on the Black Abyss Tour by The Legendary Black Water Rafting Co.  We put on these sexy outfits...

Then prepared to abseil down into the dark dark dark cave...

I may be smiling below for the camera, but I was a tad bit terrified.  And by a tad bit, I mean really really.  The opening of the cave was really narrow, and I was afraid I was going to get stuck...

The camera wasn't allowed from here on out, but the rest of the adventure included a zip line in total, complete darkness (Yikes!), cave tubing underneath the glow worms, a little climbing around, and some yummy hot chocolate.  I think the guides felt a little bad for me since I was totally convinced an eel was going to bite my butt when I was tubing down the water.  They really should NOT have told me about the resident eels.  Not a good idea when you're dealing with someone that has a slight phobia of underwater creatures.  And by slight, I mean HUGE.  Oh well, it was all worth it, especially since I didn't see any eels and I got my hands on some extra sympathy hot chocolate.  And in the end, we posed for the "after" picture, all smiles and no eel bites.

hobbit hole

I have an intense love for all things Lord of the Rings, so when I saw this hobbit underground motel near the Waitomo Caves in New Zealand, I had a little geek spasm.  I've actually been to the Waitomo Caves (best trip ever!) and if I knew this little gem of a motel existed, I would have been all over it.  This property also has some other interestingly strange places to stay, including a 1950's Bristol freighter plane, a 1950's rail carriage, and opening soon is a beached boat.  I see another trip to New Zealand in my future!!

Party Time!

There are so many things to celebrate in my life right now.  My sis is having a baby, I'm curating a big Japanese art show at Bowers Museum, my hubby and I celebrated our 5th anniversary on Tuesday, and I'm turning... gulp... 30... gulp... in June.  I came across the cutest party site the other day, and I finally had a second to look through some of the decorations they have.  ACME Party Box Company has the cutest stuff!  Now I'm a little obsessed.  Uh oh...

closet / life

I've been in the process of trying to organize my closet / life.  No matter how many hangers or storage cubbies I buy, I still manage to feel discombobulated.  I have no idea how to spell that.  Anyway, I love these little baskets from.. where else?... Anthropologie!

shoesies

At one point in my life (college), I could walk in almost any heels at any height, but now... not so much.  So it's pretty imperative for me to find heels that are walkable, danceable, skippable, you get the picture.  That being said, I love these wedges!  They look so comfortable!
